character name: Usopp
Fandom: One Piece
Timeline: Chapter 657
character's age: 19
powers, skills, pets and equipment:
SKILLS
Stamina: After being fatally injured, Usopp is able to get up and keep on fighting/running to almost a ridiculous degree - after breaking his arm, he was able to draw back to elastic on his staff-slingshot, he kept on running after being hit in the face with a four ton bat and so on and so forth. He’s a regular punching bag.
Running: When it comes to speed, he’s faster than your typical human and is able to outrun most people, but where he really shines is his endurance—he can run for miles without showing many outward signs of slowing.
Gadgetry: Usopp is a genius with inventing different weapons and creatively using household objects to his advantage. The shining examples of the former are the ClimaTact, a weapon that he made for a crewmate that has the ability to manipulate the weather and his own weapon, a slingshot powered with very unique technology.
His own weapon that is designed for maximum power and accuracy despite simply being a very large slingshot. The examples of the latter are the ammunition that he usually uses, from smoke bombs to Tabasco shots (which he aims into his opponents’ mouths) to deadly explosives powered by gunpowder.
Marksmanship: When he does decide to fight, his sniping skills surprise even himself—he’s able to shoot small objects and very long range and his accuracy is deadly. Even with the wind blowing against him and armed only with a slingshot, he’s able to shoot things at a great distance. These days, he uses items called Pop Greens to fight, which I’ll elaborate more on later.
GADGETS:
Kabuto: He primarily fights with a slingshot using two types of weaponry, either pachinko ammunition (which use explosives and flames and the like) and Pop Greens, fast sprouting plants with a variety of uses, including carnivorous plants, spidery plants to block the way, and plants with the intent of expelling great force. The Kabuto itself is an altered weapon using items called Dials which contain air and force in order to increase his range.
Hammers: Which are mostly joke weapons, but it’s good to be thorough! He uses an ordinary work hammer in order to beat people ineffectively into submission, but also uses large, fake hammers simply to psyche his opponent out.
Dials: Dials are a sort of special seashell that can contain gas, sounds, wind, light and physical force.
An example of how he’d use these is storing flammable gas inside of one and bright light to stun his opponent inside of the other. The impact dial has the most direct usage, which is simply to put it against his component and let the force impact their body.
canon history: Usopp is one of the first characters to be introduced in this series, which happens to be over 500 chapters long.
Because of this, I’ll attempt to make this as brief as possible for you mod-types, and I apologize for the probable length of this before I begin.
Usopp was born in a small village by the name of Syrup Village in East Blue to a pirate of a father.
His father had left both Usopp and his mother behind as he went off to the Grand Line to chase his career as a pirate. Instead of despising his father, however, Usopp absolutely idolized him and wished sorely for the chance to become a pirate himself to follow in his hero’s footsteps. Soon after his father left, his mother grew ill. His beginnings as a well-known liar began when he was young as his mother lay in bed dying of Mysterious Anime Disease. He told her that pirates were coming, including his father, along with miracle medicine to save her in an attempt to lighten her spirits enough to help her recover. The day after this, his mother died.
From that point on, he spent the bulk of his childhood doing three things: running through the village exclaiming that pirates were coming, waiting at the coast for his father to return and running around with three kids nine years his junior, creatively nicknamed The Usopp Pirates. He soon became well known for being a more creative liar than a namer (his most common being that he was a pirate captain with eight-thousand men and that pirates were coming).
One particular relationship held dear to his heart was the one between him and a wealthy orphaned girl also suffering from illness by the name of Kaya. Nearly every day for a year, he sat outside her window to entertain her with fanciful tales crafted to brighten up days spent in bed. This happiness was soon broken in the form of a pirate by the name of Captain Kuro masking himself as Kaya’s caretaker for three years. Kuro had an evil plot, as pirates so often do, to have Kaya include him in her will once he had the trust of the village and then to kill the girl.
Luckily for Usopp, this happened just as the current crew of the Strawhat pirates - consisting then of Luffy, Nami and Zoro - arrived on the island.
The rest of it plays out quite typically. The Straw Hats befriend Usopp! They help Usopp! Usopp helps save his happy little village and the girl is happy, the Straw Hats get a ship and the village is none the wiser to the conflict on the coast! Hurrah! Flag waving is had!
And, of course, this lovely little story would not be complete without the beginning of a bigger adventure. This is where Usopp officially joined the Straw Hat pirates, holding onto the dream of becoming a great warrior of the sea, just like his father. Although this is a dream that would have been laughed at normally, the Straw Hats are no normal crew, and he finds himself within an extremely accepting atmosphere accompanying some very powerful people.
He’s not one of the stronger members of the crew. On the contrary, he’s considered the weakest, and therefore, few of the big arcs focus on him, so here’s where I’m going to start summarizing the bits where his presence doesn’t exactly mean a whole lot.
One battle that deserves particular note would be the one soon after the arc in Usopp’s own hometown: the battle against the evil fishmen who enslave an entire island. At first, afraid of danger, Usopp ran away from his opponent and cleverly played dead before realizing that if he wants to be the True Warrior of the Sea that he aspires to be, he’s going to have to show a little more courage. He then ran after his opponent, poured gasoline on him, lit him on fire and bashed his head in with a hammer. Repeatedly. This didn’t save the day - that’s always the captain’s job - but he certainly saved his own hide and pride, learning the extent of what he was able to do. This is the first hint we see of how far Usopp will go with his brains and trickery to get ahead.
The next island of importance that the Strawhats went to was Little Garden, a place inhabited only by two giant warriors, who had been fighting for a hundred years without remembering the cause of their battle. Although one member of the crew rightly described the fight as foolishness, Usopp clung to the idea of the giants' hometown of Elbaf and their ideals of holding pride and their warrior spirit close to his heart--it was at this point that Usopp realized what he wished to become. Amongst the Straw Hats’ ranks was Vivi, a princess of a desert island being hunted by a criminal organization called Baroque Works. Members of this organization chased the Straw Hats to Little Garden, they interfered in the giants’ fight by felling one of the giants through the use of explosive rum. With one of the giants severely injured and the other trapped in a wax prison, these criminals then went after the Straw Hats. Incensed by this attack on his ideals, Usopp teamed up with Luffy and Carue (Vivi’s awesome giant pet duck) and lit the wax that the criminals were fighting with on fire, thus nullifying their abilities. After resolving the incident, the Straw Hats sailed away without a second thought save for Usopp, who hopes to visit Elbaf one day and holds a burning admiration for giants from that point on.
Skipping a period in which the Straw Hats increased their number by one (namely their doctor), we come to the desert land of Arabasta. Here, there was a long and arduous civil war going on surrounding power struggles and a lack of water. The perpetrator behind this was Crocodile, none other than the man behind Baroque Works and a well-received and honorable figure of power in Arabasta, only second to the King. The Straw Hats journeyd to bring peace back to the island not for the island’s sake, but for Vivi’s. They decided to split up and take on members of Baroque Works before confronting the real problem.
Usopp and Chopper were put up against Mr. 4 and Ms. Merry Christmas (code names, of course), and had a difficult time of it; Miss Merry Christmas ate what can only be translated as the Mole-Mole Fruit and was able to build several tunnels whereas Mr. 4 possessed a gun that ate a dog-dog fruit (don’t ask how, because I don’t know. Rule of funny!). After being thoroughly beaten, Usopp lost all hope until his enemies claimed that Luffy had died and that his dream of being the Pirate King was a joke. Bad idea. He withstood a few devastating blows from a 4-ton bat to the face and remained standing long enough to attack his enemies underneath the haze of one of his smoke bombs, then sent an explosive through the tunnels, thus defeating his enemies. To make a long story short, Crocodile was defeated, the rebels and the royal guard make amends, the Baroque Works agents were defeated, and it was a victory for the Strawhats.
Vivi decided to stay behind to help mend her shattered country, and the Straw Hats were forced to escape as the Marines pursued them. They lost one member, but gained another: an ex-member of the Baroque Works, Miss All-Sunday, aka Nico Robin, simply because she decided to hop aboard their ship. Most of the crew was quickly won over by her charms, including Usopp.
Next up? Sky Island! That’s right, the Straw Hats found themselves with the new destination of an island. In the sky. Once they arrived, it seemed like a little paradise, but that was quickly disproven. To get into the island, they must first pay a fee and the strawhats didn’t bother, which cemented their position as criminals in Sky Island.
The Strawhats soon got into trouble due to their lack of diplomacy and funds, and things quickly escalated from there as they found themselves to be targets of the god figure of Sky Island, Enel. The Strawhats split up, half of them being taken as hostages while the rest, including Usopp, went as a rescue team. Once the crew was reunited, they hatched a plan: one group was to go find hidden gold and the other was to bring their ship to a convenient meeting point. Usopp was in the latter. This group discovered that Enel’s goal was to destroy all of Sky Island and that the people that had earlier ambushed them were natives of Upper Yard, pushed out by Enel’s forces. Once again, a civil war was shaking the nation, on one side God and the fearful inhabitants of Skypeia and the previous inhabitants of Upper Yard called Shandians, led by Wiper. Once this explanation was over, Usopp and Sanji were decisively knocked out by a couple priests but the ship was defended by Nami. Nonetheless, they were out for the count for a while, leaving Robin, Chopper, Zoro and the Shandians to be defeated by Enel and for Nami to be taken with Enel on his flying ship that he meant to fly to a land mass called Vearth. Once they woke up, Sanji and Usopp went after Nami. Using one of Usopp’s gadgets, they latched onto the ship and climbed aboard to Nami’s rescue. Usopp served as a distraction on deck, allowing Sanji to halt the path of the ship and was easily beaten once again. In his rage, Enel showered thunder bolts upon the land of Skypeia, but was defeated by Luffy. Once again, the Straw Hats saved the day and achieved gold in the meantime. It is here that Usopp received the basis of his future weaponry. These items were called Dials and had the ability absorb things such as flame, power and air.
After this, they encountered a strong enemy by the name of Aokiji, and only survived out of a sense of honour on Aokiji’s part, serving a heavy blow to Usopp’s confidence who had seen himself as plenty useless before this incident. They sailed across part of Grand Line when they made it to Water 7, an island filled with shipwrights.
Here, Luffy found out that the Going Merry (the very same ship that Kaya bestowed upon the crew, all the way back in Syrup Village) was broken and no amount of money could fix it. Unfortunately, Usopp was absent while this information was being given out as he was attacked by the local gang of criminals by the name of the Franky Family while carrying the funds that were meant to be used in repairs.
The money was stolen, and Usopp ran after them to try and recover it by himself. Later, he was found by the Straw Hats severely injured outside of the Franky House, completely without money. Sanji, Zoro and Luffy rained merry revenge upon the Franky Family for the defeat of their Sniper, yet by that time, the money was spent. This fixed nothing and Usopp immediately began to berate himself for being too weak to protect the most important funds he had ever carried. Upon his return back to the ship, Luffy broke the news that the Going Merry was completely unfixable. They’d have to get a new ship. Assuming that the reason behind that was their lack of money, Usopp became a veritable fountain of emotions: sorrow for his ship, anger at himself for losing the money and an enduring battle to attempt to retain his pride. In this flurry of emotion, Usopp confronted Luffy, asserting that he was only proposing to kill the equivalent of a precious crewmate. In this moment, he declared that he was leaving the crew. Eventually, it dissolved into one major duel: if Luffy won, they would get a new boat and if Usopp won, Usopp and Usopp alone would stay in possession of the Going Merry.
On a normal day, Usopp couldn’t dream of holding his own against Luffy, but keeping in mind how injured he was, it was only sheer determination and stubbornness that spurred him on to actually go through with the fight. He did manage to stay put for a good while and put Luffy in much discomfort using all the tricks he knew, but Luffy managed to knock Usopp out with only one well aimed punch.
Then, walking away, Luffy told Usopp that he could still have the Going Merry. The reasons behind this weren’t as shallow as attachment to his ship. It merely acted as a catalyst for his suspicions he had harbored for a long time: he was not nearly as strong as the rest of the crew, and he too would be cast aside one day. Their trials prior to the fight had become so extreme that it seemed an insurmountable mountain to climb, particularly when faced with the powerhouses that belonged to the Strawhat crew.
Angered at the attack on his family, Franky decided to kidnap the weakest member of the crew alongside the ship to lure Luffy out of hiding. The problem with this was that the weakest member of the crew happened to be the one who had just left. Luckily for Usopp, when he explained the entire story to Franky, the cyborg was moved and began to speak frankly to him, as equals instead of captor and hostage.
Usopp continued attempting to fix the Going Merry when Franky broke it to him that the ship wouldn’t even last to the next island. Usopp revealed that he had known the ship was irreparably broken already, but couldn’t bear to leave it behind. One large reason behind this was the existence of the Klabautermann, a spirit that culminates in a ship that has been thoroughly loved and which Usopp had seen repairing the ship on occasion. Nonetheless, Franky argued that it was best to dismantle the ship, but the argument was interrupted by government agents who captured them both and put them on a train bound for Enies Lobby. Unbeknownst to them, this was the same sea-train that Nico Robin had been put on, and she was being pursued by the Strawhats in order to rescue her. Usopp put on a disguise and attempted to speak with Robin, showing his remaining feelings for his crew by scolding her for leaving and telling her simply to trust in Luffy, the captain he had left behind.
By this twist of fate, Usopp and Franky were freed by Sanji. Franky decided to assist in Robin’s rescue, but Usopp refused, stating that he was no longer a part of the crew--
--and came back a scant few minutes later donning a cape and a mask, calling himself Sogeking, King of the Snipers, hailing from Sniper Island, winning the award of redundancy for the day!
Complete with a theme song! This disguise was horribly transparent, but the others simply went along with it for the sake of ease (with the exception of Luffy and Chopper, who were happily had the wool pulled over their eyes).
The Franky Family and the Straw Hats (plus Sogeking King of the Snipers) teamed up in order to battle the World Government and to save Robin. Once both sides left the train, they found themselves at Enies Lobby, a high-security stronghold of the World Government.
When they arrived at the Tower of Justice and made clear to Robin that they weren’t leaving without her, Luffy ordered “Sogeking” to burn to World Government’s flag down, a direct declaration of war.
With the mask and cape on and with his confidence bolstered, Usopp followed this ludicrous command without any sign of hesitation, showing both his impeccable aim and the power of his new weapon. With this act of defiance, Robin admitted that she still wanted to be with the Strawhat crew and reaffirmed a previously dying will to live. They were then told that to retrieve Robin, they must find the correct key, each key being hidden on a CP9 member.
With this in mind, they split up, but through a series events, Usopp’s one-on-one fight turned into a two-on-two, featuring Zoro and Usopp versus Jyabura and Kaku. Once each had taken on an opponent, it became clear that even with his new weapon, Usopp was no match for Jyabura, so Sanji took over, telling him to do what he could.
Determined not to be useless, the injured Usopp ran up to a high vantage point looking down upon the bridge where the leader of CP9, Spandam, currently had Robin. This place was so high that none of the marines could reach him and none could see him without the use of binoculars. Nonetheless, his aim was good enough to shoot down several marines and fling a fireball to Spandam’s face, giving Franky enough time to unlock Robin’s handcuffs.
With their enemy down and Robin’s handcuffs unlocked, there was only one battle left to be fought. Luffy was still in battle with Lucci, his opponent, while the rest of the Straw Hats fitfully waited on their escape ship, knowing that more Marines were coming to kill them.
Usopp ran to where Luffy was fighting and discovered his captain upon the ground, ready to give up. At this point, Usopp tore off his mask and challenged Lucci to a fight himself. This spurred Luffy to get up again, knowing that Usopp would be killed in seconds, and he finally defeated Lucci. Now cornered, the Straw Hats heard a voice coming from the waters below. This voice belonged to the Going Merry, whose Klabautermann (mentioned earlier as the spirit of the ship) had come to rescue them one last time.
The Going Merry carried them as far as it could before breaking down, and instead of simply using its timber for their new ship, they gave it a Viking funeral at sea once they were safely back at Water 7. The Straw Hats then received a new ship as a gift from Franky, and then recruited him as their shipwright, but there was still the issue of Usopp leaving the crew that they had to address. Usopp assumed that they would ask him to come back, but that wasn’t the case—in fact, pursued by more marines, they began to leave without him. At first he yelled jokes and lies at them in an attempt to save face but was eventually forced to swallow his already battered pride to apologize for having left the crew and pled to join them once more.
Just like that, Luffy stretched his hand back out to Usopp, and he was accepted back onto the ship with renewed vigor and a bounty upon the head of ‘Sogeking’ for 30,000,000 beli.
After some time, the Strawhats came across the island Thriller Bark. He set out with Nami and Chopper to take the Mini Merry - one of their new ship’s features - out for a spin and landed on the island, where they ran into trouble in the form of zombies. They took refuge in a mansion where they were to run into their enemies of this arc. Once they entered his home, it became quickly apparent that this was not a safe place to be, and that the home itself was filled with zombies.
The master of the mansion was Moria, who stole away people’s shadows to put into corpses, creating the zombies. This left those without their shadows to hide from the light of day lest they burn in the sunshine. They ran away, but soon became lost and happened upon Perona, a young girl who could somehow control ‘negative ghosts’, effectively destroying everybody’s self confidence and rendering them incapable of fighting. This allowed Perona and her minions to capture the Strawhats (the rest of which arrived on the island after Usopp’s group).
She became Usopp’s enemy, for the sole reason that nobody could actually make Usopp more negative than he already was. Ah, the Power of Pessimism! Leaving the powerhouses behind, Usopp pursued Perona and won in his own fashion, using his wit and tricks in order to twist the situation to his advantage.
The only thing out of the ordinary was the fact that when he got into a jam he donned his Sogeking mask once more. Once on, it gave him more confidence. The notable part of this instance was that Usopp and Sogeking had small arguments in his head, showing the extent to which Usopp may believe in Sogeking.
After Perona’s timely defeat, Usopp returned to the crew (and Brook, who had joined them), who were currently battling against a giant with Luffy’s shadow (therefore Luffy’s power and spirit) inside of him, operating under the orders of Moria. They defeated the giant and defeated Moria, letting loose the shadows and returning light to his victims’ lives! Hurrah! Unfortunately for them, they were then joined by Kuma, an excessively powerful marine who injured them all horribly before deciding to spare their lives.
After they were sufficiently recovered, the Straw Hats picked Brook up as another new crewmate, then continued on. The Straw Hats’ next destination was the Sabaody Archipelago, a place where slave trade was rampant and all were forced to follow the World Nobles that resided there.
Eventually, one of the friends that the crew had made was kidnapped and was put up for auction to become a slave. As they attempted to save her, her friend who they had brought along got shot by one of the nobles. This proved to be the last straw and Luffy decided to do what appeared to be the logical thing to do: punch the noble out! Widespread panic ensued and marines surrounded the auction house. The marines were easily defeated by Luffy and other pirates in the area, and the Strawhats escaped.
As fate would have it, nothing was so easy. The big guns rolled in, meaning the Straw Hats were once again against somebody with the power of Kuma—a Kuma clone. All their strength was sapped defeating it, but at least they won. Right? Wrong! Two Shichibukai (very powerful marines) and two more Kumas arrived on the scene, and that meant big trouble. Possibly for the first time, Luffy ordered everybody to concentrate on running. They split into three groups, and Usopp was forced to carry a drastically injured Zoro on his back while fleeing from a superpowered cyborg creature with an arsenal of doom. Chaos ensued, and long story short, the Straw Hats were absolutely destroyed. The real Kuma used his paw-powers to teleport each of the Straw Hats, first Zoro, then Brooke, then Usopp.
Usopp was then transported into Edensphere, and this history will be covered below. Once he escaped Edensphere, he returned to canon as normal and reached the Boyen Islands, which is where he trained for two years before meeting up with the rest of the crew at Sabaody Archipelago.
Once he and his crew reached their destination of Fishman Island they stumbled straight into a politically charged crisis: two notorious fishmen, one who had been pursuing the mermaid princess for a number of years, forcing her to be locked away inside a tower, and another who wishes only to radically prove fishman superiority and destroy humans, have teamed up! Their wish is to destroy Fishman Island itself for its lenient attitude towards humans.
Which just won’t do in the Strawhats’ eyes, as they had various adventures themselves on the island up until this point, and they quickly move into action to neutralize the threat with relative ease with the help of a resident fishman, Jinbei, and the mermaid princess, Shirahoshi, whose latent powers to summon Sea Kings come into play. After the ensuing victory celebration, it becomes known that Fishman Island is unable to pay their tribute to one of the four Yonkou (the world’s most notorious pirate captains), whose protection they are under. This Yonkou, by the name of Big Mom, becomes enraged at their tardiness, so the Strawhats pirates declare Fishman Island their territory before heading out into the new world.
Once they get onto the waters of the New World, they split up into two groups, and Usopp ends up reluctantly in the group that ventures onto the next island, Punk Hazard. He, Luffy, Robin and Zoro come across a large door and a dragon, who Zoro and Luffy make quick work of. It should also be noted that Usopp coming from Edensphere will not affect any potential canonmates, as he didn’t have any time in-canon to talk to them about it.
personality: Usopp has shown himself time and time again to be extremely sentimental. He’s easily moved to tears when something affects him deeply, quick to lose his temper when he perceives that he’s been wronged and makes bonds with others very easily. He suffers from extended bouts of anxiety, uncertainty, fear, pessimism and insecurity. Needless to say, he’s not exactly the most confident of the Straw Hats, but often uses lies to cover his flaws up - he cares quite a bit about what others think of him and is constantly reaching out for affirmation of his usefulness.
He’s prone to hiding his stresses and fears with bravado and jokes, only to have them explode at an inopportune moment. After the timeskip, he has certainly matured and gained a lot of confidence to a certain extent, but it’s not too much of a gamble to assume that these issues still lie underneath the surface.
On the flip side of his numerous flaws, he’s also an extremely cheerful young man, if not a bit on the immature side. He loves telling stories, playing all sorts of games, drawing, painting and tinkering. He’s always one to keep his hands and mouth busy and adores being in the limelight. He’s very lively and inquisitive, always carefully exploring the world around him. He’s also easily impressed, going so far as to admire his enemies’ weapons or techniques, even when they’re in battle against both him and his crew. Despite being left to fend for himself at a young age, he’s been able to stay young at heart, showing every sign of deep pleasure in activities that he likely had few friends to share with back home, such as making sand castles or snowmen. He’s very affected by the stories he grew up with as a boy, and the ideas of honour that come with being a true man of the sea are ones he holds dear to his heart and wishes to live by.
Usopp is very gentle at heart and harbours no ill will towards anybody unless they cross what he perceives as a moral boundary. He’s generally well-disposed to most people he meets, and has a lot of room in his heart for many people—his crew, his village, and the people he’s met along the way all remain a big part of him.
Above everything, he believes in dreams, most likely because if he didn’t there wouldn’t be anything else to fight for.
Ultimately he’s able to work past all his fears and defenses when things get dangerous, and this is when his loyalty shines through. He will never abandon his crewmates, and will fight to the end for things he believes are important.
After two years in Edensphere, his lying mellowed down somewhat, and he grew in maturity, because the problems they had to deal with there had more to do with calming down and thinking rather than going out and blowing up whatever it was that bothered him. He finally became a part of a community as an equal member, not a kid the entire village had to take care of, so he learned the responsibility that comes with a steady job and the responsibility to a city that he grew to love.
why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting? Usopp comes from a fighting canon which has quite a lot to do with the supernatural and other such risks, so he’s well suited for a place such as this one. In addition, the game that he is coming from had several elements of strife to it and quite a lot of death, so Scorched is potentially a step up from what he grew used to.
Previously Played Information
previous game: Edensphere, found here, or shifted onto DW at [Bad username or unknown identity: ”edensphere”].
length of time there: Approximately two years
important development and/or events in your previous game: Edensphere is a memory loss game, so Usopp chose the name of Sniper from his birth dream (which can be found on his journal here), where he was told he was a sniper. He was terrified from the moment he arrived, but was helped by the two characters that were to become his closest CR, Krile from the Final Fantasy series and Ginko from Mushishi. Once he settled in, he became a Scavenger, which was essentially a group of people that roamed a place called the Scavenger’s Yard, full of scrap material, and brought it back up to ground level for further usage and to sell their wares.
As the Yard was filled with dangers, Sniper made quick work of recreating his Kabuto and his pachinko as a method of self defense, though it took a couple months of being protected by the other members of Edensphere for him to remember how to make everything properly. Shortly afterwards, he was sent by the elevator to the fourth floor, a place where one may visit canon locations bereft of all the people inside of it. Sniper was sent to the Going Merry, which kindled a spark of rebellion inside him as he realized that he was meant to be with his mysterious crew on the open sea, not trapped in a bubble.
Afterwards, to his delight, Sanji arrived in Edensphere, going by the name of Prince. Though they didn’t recognize each other right away, they soon kindled a vague friendship and compared memories of the Going Merry. Almost as soon as he arrived, however, Prince disappeared, leaving Sniper hurt and angry at the Tree for snatching away one of the few clues he had of his past. To add insult to injury, he regained a memory immediately afterwards in which Prince had stepped in to save his sorry ass.
A few months later, Sanji reappeared under the name of Chivalry, without any memories of his previous stay in Edensphere. This time, Sniper had already been burned with the loss of a few friends and took his time getting to know Chivalry again, but they soon became closer than they were before. Chivalry was far more proactive than Sniper was in trying to sort out the mysteries of Edensphere, and this in turn inspires Sniper to go along with him. After only a short amount of time of becoming close to his crewmate, Sanji went missing for the last time, this time disappearing in front of Sniper’s eyes.
This was when Sniper began harbouring huge resentment towards Edensphere for putting him and his friends for all this misery, and also when he made the decision that he had to become more involved in Edensphere’s mysteries if he ever wanted him and his friends to be able to go back home where they belonged.
And then zombies invaded, and Sniper made good on that promise by fighting to protect the ones he held dear. True, he spent much of that time torn between fleeing and fighting, but it was one of the first signs of his commitment to the people of Edensphere.
After the battle had ended, things went back to some semblance of normalcy for a time. This is a good time for me to interject that though I’m focusing on conflict, Edensphere was not without its joys for Sniper - he grew extremely close to quite a few of the residents, and spent a lot of time experimenting, exploring and fooling around with his friends.
However, this was when things begin to get a bit messy. Edensphere began acting even more erratically than normal, and factions began to rise. It was clear that there was some sort of war brewing between the CPA, a faction that seemed hellbent on Edensphere’s demise with their cryptic journal posts and offers of memory crystals and information, and Fugue, the dense leader of Edensphere who seemed to be incompetent most of the time. Strange things began to happen, not the least of which was a temporary memory loss for many of the characters once again.
Sniper received an anonymous note asking him how far he has dug, which he first ignored as somebody trying to get him to do something foolish, but eventually followed for a few reasons.
At this moment in time, Ginko was missing and Sniper had been growing more and more angry with the Sphere. He received a memory of saving Robin - who was in the Sphere but Sniper never interacted with - and immediately ran across her becoming soaked up into the Tree for attempting to find answers behind its secrets. Having recognized her from his memory but not having any of the emotional background, he froze in his place and watched her succumb, too terrified to make a move. After writing of her death in the journals, one of his friends, Huo (from Red Cliff) tried to talk himself out of his self loathing, but it didn’t work.
He decided to dig, quite literally. Still a coward at heart, it took quite a while before he managed to get the courage up to dig far enough, which meant that every day for a couple of weeks, he dug, covered up the hole, and went home. When he managed to dig to the roots , he discovered that the roots of the Tree grew in the pattern of brain cells (a fact that Sniper, unlearned in the ways of science, had no way of deciphering) and quickly drew it inside of the journals before succumbing to an attack of giant bugs. After his death, he came back without the memory of Nico Robin and came back more frustrated than before, with quite a few apologies to issue to mend hurt relationships for acting so foolishly.
But among these relationships was a bridge that had to be burned as he learned who had sent him the mysterious note. It was Huo that had sent him the note in the hopes of manipulating him to ask other scavengers to dig deeper, not intending for Sniper to act on his own. Angry at the assumption that he wouldn’t be brave enough to dig on his own, and angrier still at the manipulation of a friend, Sniper cut off ties with him.
Around this time, Edensphere began going to hell. Meetings were held sharing information on Edensphere’s secrets, and more people perished as a consequence. The CPA began moving more drastically than before, and issued an attack on Edensphere’s hospital, using medics as hostages, which Sniper moved into to try and help, mostly out of concern for his friends that were there. After this terrorism attack, both the leaders of the CPA and Fugue perished. It was during this attack that Huo and Sniper struck up a hazy alliance once more. They had previously banded together with their wits to defeat a dragon and often commiserated with one another about being weak in comparison to their supernaturally powered allies. These bonds proved too tough to break, and though Sniper didn’t forgive Huo, he refused to allow the man who was once his friend to perish.
After this battle, the Sphere began to decay inside, and all residents were forced to retreat to the Wilderness in order to avoid the falling branches. In this time, their lives were all in flux and most waited for death. Sniper, however, lived in the hope that things would go better - despite all odds, he had a feeling he would get to see his crew once more.
They all fell into a deep, twenty-four hour sleep in which they regained all of their memories, and the Sphere changed forms, becoming a hub that connected to several different universes, leading to freedom. Usopp said his goodbyes to all of his close friends, mended broken relationships and went back to his own universe with Ginko in tow - but when he reached his own universe, his friend was nowhere to be found.
notes: Hopefully this wasn’t too convoluted! I was trying to simplify things, but if you want a list of Usopp’s close CR from Edensphere or a summary of the plot of the game itself, I can provide it for you easily - I was actually a plot mod there, so I can go into as much detail as you’d like.

Network Post Sample:
[At first, only Usopp’s voice can be heard through the Forge - and at that, it appears that he doesn’t realize that it’s actually on. His voice is faint, but clearly irate, and he seems to be talking mostly to himself.]
...can’t believe this has happened again, we only just met up! Why the hell does this keep on happening? You’d think that we’d be able to get a break sometime, but--
[The voice pauses in its endless grumbling as Usopp realizes that the voice function seems to be on.]
Ah, shit. Wait, I can figure it out, it’s...
[And then the feed turns into video, and Usopp’s scowling face bobs into view. He’s visibly harried, and it takes him a moment to figure out whether or not he’s in the frame.]
Hey, can anybody hear me? This is something that you use to talk to other people right? I just... look, I’m new here, wherever here is. Can anyone tell me what’s going on? [He pauses and sits back down onto his bed, resting his chin in his hand.] Or if there’s any way of getting out? Or, I dunno, who exactly put me here? ‘Cause I sure as hell didn’t walk in here by myself.
I’m looking for some people that might’ve arrived here with me, but I woke up in this room on my own - their names are Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky and Brook. Are any of you guys out there?
Third Person Sample: This wasn’t good. In fact, as far as Usopp was concerned, this was probably the worst thing that had happened to him for quite some time now, and this was taking into account the fact that he had spent two years on an island that seemed hell-bent on wanting to consume him as a stringy appetizer. He and his crew had just made it to the New World, and he had been ripped away from them once again. To be fair, he would likely be in the throes of more inescapable panic if he hadn’t already been trapped in another world for two years, but now he was simply waiting to see if he had to expect more of the same from this place.
All right, there were a few good things here. Number one, he hadn’t woken up naked, which was always a plus. Number two, he still had all of his possessions. And number three, it appeared that he wasn’t going to be homeless. On the other hand, he was completely, utterly alone in a strange place, and had likely been put here in this apartment by beings that were somewhat less than benevolent. He peered out of his window, hopping from one foot to the other anxiously, sat down on his bed, crammed a hand inside his mouth and whimpered quietly into it until he managed to get himself back together.
He perked up once he saw a purse waiting on the table, and peered at the funds that were inside. It was nothing like beli, he noted, but at least it didn’t appear that they used discs of wood as currency here. Usopp picked up the strange device beside the purse of starter funds and turned it over curiously in his hands. He pushed a few of the buttons and read the words that lit up on the screen and carried it with him as he went back to the window to gaze out at the world that he would surely be stuck in for a while, mumbling to himself all the while.
An adventure, he supposed Luffy would call it, but Usopp didn’t much feel like an adventure without his friends behind him. He pushed his forehead against the window, and took a deep breath.
C’mon. Brave Captain Usopp, remember? He got out of Edensphere, he could get out of this too.
Probably.
Anything else? Nope! Thank you very much for your consideration.
